IHS alumni

The Board of IHS Alumni International acts as a bridge between IHS and its worldwide alumni community. Through its strategy, policies and activities, the board consolidates the alumni network and creates opportunities for connectivity and collaboration among its members. As the current team has just completed its term, we are in the process of selecting new members. Find more information about the roles and the application form below.

CompensationThis is a voluntary position. Therefore, there is no direct monthly financial compensation. However, there is a symbolic quarterly compensation, provided the points stated in the ToR are fulfilled. Other benefits include travel and commuting expenses within the Netherlands and a small budget for professional development training.

Role description

The president of the alumni board represents the network and is a key person liaising between IHS Alumni Relations Office and the global alumni community. They are responsible for planning and managing the board's activity.

Tasks & responsibilities

  • Represent the alumni network
  • Coordinate the alumni board and take care of the team
  • Liaise with the Alumni Relations Office, which is integrated into the board
  • Support engagement & visibility activities at a network level
  • Hold board meetings (organization, facilitation, minutes etc.)
  • Together with the team, outline strategies and actions for further development of the alumni network
  • Make sure that each project has clear tasks and people assigned to it, adhere to deadlines
  • Together with the ARO, develop visibility and engagement strategies for the network
  • Implement those strategies together with the rest of the board, ARO and active alumni
  • Hold bi-weekly meetings (~1h)

Role description 

The vice president of the alumni network supports the president and is responsible for overseeing the budget and activities related to the sustainability of the board. In addition, anything concerning documents, procedures, rules, regulations, and framework development falls under this role. This member also plans and conducts fundraising activities and/or explores other “giving back” activities for alumni (e.g. mentoring for IHS students).

  • Acts as treasurer 
  • Is responsible for the budgeting and sustainability of the board 
  • Responsible for framework development, processes, rules and regulations 
  • Fundraising/”Giving back” activities

Role description

This person oversees the alumni network's online communication. That implies any form of content coming from the board towards the community. They make sure that the communication materials the board puts out align with the IHS brand, and they work together with the Alumni Relations Office (ARO) on integrating the IHS brand in communication processes, messages and overall representation. They develop ideas to increase visibility and engagement within the online alumni community and support the implementation.

Tasks & responsibilities

  • Coordinates engagement & visibility activities on behalf of the board (together with ARO)
  • Works together with ARO on the implementation of their ideas, giving timely briefings and feedback for communication materials
  • Oversees the communication sent by the board
  • Together with ARO, works on online community engagement and better ways to engage with alumni. 
  • Gives updates about the board's activities to the IHS Alumni community via social media and group chats
  • Creates content for online alumni channels
  • Bi-weekly meetings 1 hour

Role description 

This person has the role of mapping and engaging the physical global alumni community. Alumni from all over the world are not easily accessible, yet they are one of the most significant stakeholders of IHS. This person works with ARO to engage the many smaller informal groups and associations of alumni all over the world. 

Tasks & responsibilities 

  • Collaborates with ARO on the implementation of the Global/Local network strategy
  • Shares the responsibility of mapping the global network with ARO 
  • Gets in touch with Local Alumni Associations and local alumni 
  • Supports online and local events
