The event will examine the private sector’s important, and growing, role in cities and its impact on urban sustainability. In a landscape where urban planning often yields to market forces, our panel will strive for a deeper comprehension of the private sector’s role and responsibilities.
The panel will include practitioners and representatives from the government, civic, and academic sectors who will share knowledge and insights on innovative solutions to mitigate environmental degradation, build resilience, and create cities that can thrive in the face of global changes.

Background
This is the first Urban event hosted by WBA since the release of the finalised Urban Benchmark methodology in March 2024. Using this methodology, the Urban Benchmark will assess and rank the 300 companies with the most impact on urban environments – including real estate developers and managers, construction and engineering firms, transportation companies and companies in the utility sectors – according to how well they ensure sustainable and equitable cities. WBA’s goal is to transform Sustainable Development Goal 11, the New Urban Agenda, as well as other global commitments and industry disclosure standards into a cross-cutting methodology. The results of this analysis will be released in November 2024 at the World Urban Forum.
