On November 13-14, a senior delegation from the Ministry of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/National Land Agency of Indonesia (ATR-BPN) visited IHS. The delegation was headed by Ms Embun Sari, Director General of Land Acquisition and Land Development. The two institutions signed an agreement to foster cooperation in areas such as public land development, land consolidation and policies.

The ATR-BPN land paradigm consists of 4 pillars - land tenure, land value, land use and land development. The delegation came to IHS to discuss these four pillars with IHS staff, including Director David Dodman, Senior Land Specialist Ore Fika, Lead Land Specialist Dr Paul Rabé, and Dr Pamela Duran Diaz, Senior Planning Specialist. In particular, the ATR delegation was interested in land consolidation and land development, a new work area for the ministry.

On the first day, the programme consisted of an introduction to IHS by David Dodman, followed by two presentations - International land development best practices: sustainable development and the Importance of good land management by Dr Paul Rabé, and International land development best practices: Land development strategies and instruments for sustainable development by Ore Fika.
The afternoon was dedicated to two round table discussions on land consolidation and land development, centred around the planning of the new national capital of Nusantara. On day two, the delegation visited Amsterdam and Almere together with Abbie Arcena, IHS Project Officer.
Future collaboration
On Monday, 13 November, IHS and the Ministry of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The MoU is a framework to foster cooperation between the two institutions in areas such as public land development, land consolidation, development of policies and legal systems.
