The MSc in Urban Management and Development is a 1-year programmme taught in English, offering four master tracks at IHS. In addition to high-quality academic content, the programme includes an intensive skills stream to equip students with in-demand job market skills. It is a great opportunity to learn from urban policy advisors and real-life case studies at a top-100 university. Participants will discuss urban issues and trends from around the world, linking their knowledge and expertise to their thesis research.

Urban Digital Transformation and Innovation

This Master track focuses on how digital innovation and transformation impact urban socio-economic development and governance. Students will learn to critically evaluate the concept of 'smart cities' and analyse the opportunities and challenges that the current global digitalisation trends create in industrial production, employment, and sustainability.

Urban Housing and Land Justice

IHS

This Master track evaluates the complex legal, political, institutional, social, and economic processes that facilitate or impede access to land, housing, and urban services. Participants in this course will explore issues of justice and equality through various perspectives, including socio-political, socio-legal, economic, environmental, and governance, focusing on securing land and housing rights and access to adequate housing and basic urban services.

Strategic Urban Planning & Policies

This programme focuses on how urban planning and policies respond to urban dynamics and how different stakeholders are engaged in co-creating a commonly envisioned urban development. Students will discuss the impact of urban planning on rapid urbanisation, informal settlements, social deprivation, increasing inequalities and economic decline.

Urban Environment, Sustainability and Climate Change

IHS

This Master track explores various conceptual, theoretical, and practical approaches to achieving sustainable urban transformation and developing climate-neutral and resilient cities globally. It provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary to critically assess and actively pursue urban transformation in the context of the universal challenge of sustainable development and the pressing issue of climate change.
