June is Architecture month!

June is Architecture month in Rotterdam and thus, a great opportunity for urban management enthusiasts to overbook their agendas with niche events from the very generous offer available. To make it easier for you, we’ve made a top-five events that you shouldn’t miss. Ready? Here we go:

1. We love Public Space Festival | 8th of June

This small festival makes us very excited, because public space relates a lot to what we do. Also, it has a packed and very diverse programme, which you can attend for free! On the 8th of June, go to Zomerhof quarter and meet other city makers interested in public space and conversations around this topic.

2. Zig-zag City festival | 9-24th of June

Do you want to dive right into the neighbourhood life of the city? This is your chance to explore Rotterdam-West, a vibrant and diverse area that you shouldn’t miss in Rotterdam. Check out also the eight Straatkijkers/Street Viewers – eight lookout point structures made of wood, elevated from the ground, which can offer you different perspectives of the surrounding space.

  1. Days of the Architecture | 16 - 17 June.

A ticket to this event works like a magic “Open Sesame” for entering unique buildings in Rotterdam, which are not usually accessible. Don’t miss this exciting opportunity to gain limited access inside exceptional urban spaces, like the Red Apple, 100Hoog, the basement of the Erasmus Bridge or the Depot construction site at the Museum Park.

  1. Designing community #1: Co-creating XL urban transformations & Designing community #2: In search of the just & inclusive city | 21 - 22 June

During the Architecture Month, Architectuurinstituut Rotterdam (AIR – Architecture Institute of Rotterdam) is organizing a couple of interesting events on community involvement and planning. “Designing Community” happens on two consecutive days. On the 21st of June, learn about large-scale urban developments, design and sustainability and the next day, delve into insights from the research of Toni Griffin (Harvard Graduate School of Design), on the design of the just city.

  1. Rotterdam Rooftop Tours | Saturdays: 9, 16, 23, 30 June, from 14:30

Did you miss Rotterdam Rooftop Days? You still have a good chance of exploring some of the city center rooftops, guided by Esther Wienesse, author of Het Rotterdamse Dakenboek (‘Rotterdam Rooftops’ book), in a two-hour walking tour that you can reserve here.

We hope you enjoy these events. If you want to share any valuable insights or suggestions with us, don’t hesitate to tag us on social media. You can find us as @ihsrotterdam on Twitter and @ihsrotterdamalumni on Instagram.
