Many of the sites mentioned here have been adapted from a table that is available from the Open Government Partnership site listing in a table many of these initiatives mentioned here. Note some of the links were broken. The ones below were included as examples of how (local) government and civil society are trying to address the Covid-19 epidemic. Other sites included represent key Inter(national) organizations providing information on Covid-19. Inclusion in this list does not mean endorsement of any particular initiative but is rather intended to demonstrate the range of the responses and resources available. Suggestions for further additions to this list are more than welcome and can be sent to browne@ihs.nl.

ACAPS COVID-19: Government Measures Dataset (This dataset puts together all the measures implemented by governments worldwide in response to the Coronavirus pandemic. Data collection includes secondary data review. The researched information available falls into five categories: Social distancing; Movement restrictions; Public health measures; Social and economic measures; and Lockdowns. Brazil – Observatório Imobiliáro Covid-19 (Internacional)

Brazil Painel de Leitos e Insumos (A data website from the Ministry of Health to provide information in regards to hospital capabilities and equipment in the Country. In order to promote transparency to actions and efforts taken to fight Covid-19, the website allows the population to monitor the number of hospital beds and supplies, as well as tests, masks, gloves, among others, available in each state).

Brazil The National School of Public Administration (Enap) has developed the “Challenges Platform” (Presents a platform society to participate in the construction of ground-breaking solutions to help the country face COVID-19 pandemic).

Brazil The University Extension Project RECânone and the NESC (Center for Collective Health Research) –Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (They have been working together since March 2020: students, teachers and specialists all translating texts that are strategic to face the COVID-19 Crisis in North-eastern Brazil. The translated texts coming from scientific world centres as the Imperial College and Johns Hopkins University but also – and much more specifically– from community initiatives activated in other places, which were linked to CODIV-19 or other prior epidemic outbreaks, such as Ebola in Western Africa. The project is also translating Latin-American materials. There is a strong belief that cultural diversity as well as class, race and gender differences have to be considered when defining policies towards local communities. In this sense, empowerment and participation of common citizens is considered fundamental. The texts resulting from this experience of translation are being shared between local government leaders, health workers, social movements and the local and regional media).

Bulgaria Sofia Volunteer Platform (Recruits and organises volunteers to serve the elderly and other people at risk by daily door-to-door visits, bringing food, doing shopping, providing medication, making a friendly social phone call. Over 3,000 citizens receive support at present, served by over 100 volunteers and the municipal enterprise “Social Patronage”).

It provides personalized recommendations based on personal risk factors and sends timely updates with important news and alerts from Canada’s Ministry of Health).

China DXY (Open data and news platform gathering cases (from central and local government), dispelling misinformation, live updating news, and providing scientific information regarding COVID-19 and SARS-COV-2 virus).

City of Amsterdam (2020) International Urban Monitor on Corona Crisis and Recovery (A monthly publication on urban measures to deal with COVID-19. Different issues are discussed, depending on the questions arising within the municipal organization. It aims to give a general overview of urban measures worldwide. It also has an overview of EU measures and of different relevant sources).

COVID-19 Narratives by Dr David Nabarro (On 21 February 2020, Dr David Nabarro, Co-Director of the Imperial College Institute of Global Health Innovation at the Imperial College London and Strategic Director of 4SD, was appointed as one of six Special Envoys to the World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Special Envoy on COVID-19. Italy Anpas - Coronavirus activities for citizens (Anpas are using ushahidi.com to disseminate information about the services their associations and volunteer networks are providing for people stuck in their homes due to health problems/quarantine. The goal is to contribute to flattening the curve and limit spread of the virus by helping people stay in their homes, avoiding hazardous actions and promoting recommended behaviour).

Italy - Dashboard on COVID-19 in Italy (Maintained by the Department of Civil Protection).

Italy #I stay at home : new coronavirus (Web app to follow cases and find digital solutions).

Italy - LAZIODRCOVID (Lazio Doctor Covid) (Through this mobile Android application downloaded on the phone and a self-assessment questionnaire, some information will be processed by the system and will be made available to healthcare professionals. In the case of answers indicative of risk of contact or infection, the patient will be contacted for further information and tele-visited; in this way it will be possible to contact a general practitioner in virtual mode, anywhere. The application provides secure bidirectional text-audio communications via smartphone between the citizen and their doctor. The video call is activated, if necessary, by the doctor to investigate the patient’s clinical picture).

Italy – Ministry of Health : New coronavirus The Ministry of Health for the Covid emergency management has created, on its institutional website, a specific HUB named NEW CORONAVIRUS, dedicated to communication to citizens and healthcare professionals with continuous updates on the situation in Italy and in the world, in relation to the spread of the pandemic and its management. There is an English language area, developed by the National Service, that reports all the updates concerning of Covid emergency).

Jordan – Government of Jordan (Website in Arabic giving information on Jordan’s situation with regard to Coronavirus. It includes the updated numbers of coronavirus cases, recoveries, their conditions, and how to take preventive measures to avoid getting infected).

Jordan - Naua Platform (An initiative to support one of the most vulnerable sectors, the daily wage labourers who wouldn’t be able to fulfil their own basic needs and that of their families due to the government shutdown and indoor quarantine. The campaign, supported by the Crown Prince foundation, will use the donations to distribute food kits that contain essentials for the survival of these families).

London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) Covid-19 tracker (Currently with the rapid escalation of the COVID-19 pandemic, the following resources offer the latest numbers of known cases: WHO COVID-19 dashboard or Johns Hopkins University COVID-19 dashboard
The aim of this site is to complement the above resources by providing several interactive features not currently available elsewhere, including the timeline function, the ability to overlay past outbreaks, and an emphasis on normalised counts (per 100,000 individuals).

Spain – Madrid Compartimos Barrio - Ecosistema de proximidad (This a is an initiative in Spanish and English to make trade and essential services visible during the COVID-19 operations in each district. It is also for the neighborhood associations that are lending their support and solidarity to many residents of Madrid. Its objective is to become a ‘proximity ecosystem’ that serves to bring associations and companies closer, and thus supply the population that cannot leave or cannot deal the situation of confinement on their own).

Spain – Madrid Conectados. Encuentros en directo con expertos (This is a digital meeting space in Spanish and English for citizens and technicians of the Madrid City Council to communicate during the confinement due to the COVID-19 coronavirus. It has a program of live sessions is offered with municipal experts, who will tell how they provide their services in this situation and answer directly questions from citizens).

Spain -Madrid sale al balcón (This is a space in Spanish and English for citizen initiatives to improve the quality of life of Madrid society in the state of alarm derived from the COVID-19 virus pandemic. Through this space, the Madrid City Council wants to promote the participation of Madrid citizens in the generation of novel and viable ideas and proposals. It improves international awareness on ongoing and completed projects and initiatives, helps reference them and stimulates collaboration and follow-up.
