For Prospective Students

IHS does not offer scholarships for the PhD programme. You can read more information on external funding options here.

IHS does not offer postdoctoral positions. The 4-year PhD programme is fee-based. 

The tuition fee for full-time PhD candidates is €12,500 per year. The total amount of costs differs and depends on several factors. Please find the fees and costs for the PhD programme here

For Applicants

The applications are on a rolling-basis. This means that there is no application deadline – you can submit your application at any given time. 

Submitting your application is free of charge. 

Please send your Master’s degree, Master’s transcripts, and your CV to phd@ihs.nl. The Admissions Office will then assess the relevance of your education. 

Yes, the research proposal should be according to the template. Tip: watch the tutorial for an extensive explanation on how to write your proposal here. 

Certified copies can be obtained by your university, a notary, a sworn translator of the City Hall. 

For Admitted Students

You are welcome to indicate your preferred supervisor. However, we cannot guarantee that the preferred supervisor will be assigned as it depends on the availability of the supervisors and their expertise in relation to your research topic. 

You don’t have to apply for it yourself. IHS arranges the MVV visa and the residence permit. If you stay less than 90 days in the Netherlands, you don’t need an MVV visa and residence permit.
