Meet the speakers

Dr Pamela Duran Diaz | Senior Planning Specialist, IHS
Dr Pamela Durán-Díaz is a Senior Planning Specialist and lecturer in the master’s track on Strategic Urban Planning and Policies at IHS. Concurrently, she is pursuing a Habilitation in Sustainable Land Governance for WEF Systems at the Technical University of Munich. In her dynamic career, Dr Durán-Díaz continues to lead impactful research projects, contributing significantly to the advancement of her field and actively engaging with global initiatives focused on sustainability and heritage preservation.

Dr Saad Khan | Visiting Fellow, International Institute of Social Studies (ISS)
Saad Khan serves at the Centre of Excellence in Gender Studies (CEGS) at Quaid-i-Azam University Islamabad and, at present, he is a visiting fellow at the International Institute of Social Studies (ISS), the Hague. As a critical feminist scholar, he analyses the gendered dynamics of Sufi culture in contemporary Pakistan, focusing on the lives and works of female leaders. During his stay at ISS, he will pursue research on the role of international actors/states in transgender politics in Pakistan.

Prof. Dr Melissa Schumacher | Professor and Researcher, Universidad de las Américas Puebla
Prof Dr. Melissa Schumacher is a high-impact academic and researcher with an outstanding international career in the fields of territorial planning, regenerative design, and community development. Her research interests include rural planning and regenerative design, social urbanism and community development, urban agriculture, gentrification, indigenous landscape conservation and gender. These focus areas reflect her commitment to addressing complex territorial challenges through a holistic and interdisciplinary approach. As a professor and researcher in the Department of Architecture at the Universidad de las Américas Puebla, she leads projects that blend indigenous knowledge, participatory approaches, and regenerative design strategies.

Dr Fatima Mandhu | Dean School of Law, University of Zambia
Dr Fatima Mandhu holds an LLB and LLM from the University of Zambia and a PhD from the Africa University. She has served as Head of the Private Law Department in the School. As Head of Private Law Department, she was involved in designing programmes coordinating and promoting research supervision and activities. Her expertise and areas of interest include land law and property relations, mining law and gender law.
